Freind Connect friend requests are a little confusing right now. Actually, now I have some more experience with this and you get a friend request in what ever application you are using at the time.
If you are in Gmail then you get it there.
If you are in Google Reader you get it there.
If you are in neither you get it stored as an email waiting for you in Gmail.
If you are only registered in FriendConnect then then you will get the friend request the next time you log into a FriendConnect widget.
Or at least that is how we see it working right now.
Google changes things around every time I use the apps, go figure.
