Google Buys Zagat

In a not so shocking move, Google buys Restaurant Reviews Site Zagat, As Google continues to collect what real people think about brick and mortar businesses to bring you better search results

Today Google’s acqusition of Zagat was announced by Marissa Mayer, VP, Local, Maps and Location Services saying; “Zagat will be a cornerstone of our local offering….”

Just as quickly, Reuters shot back with What Does Google want with Zagat, in a very critical blog post.

Bloomberg blogged Zagat, mentioning that “Shares of the San Francisco-based OpenTable fell $5.84…” in the wake.

The Atlantic Wire proclaimed “Google is poised to crush Yelp…”

Probably the most interesting thing I found on this today was Marissa Mayer’s Tweet / haiku that read, “Delightful deal done; Zagat and Google now one; foodies have more fun!”

  1. Google seems like the guy at the poker table with 50% more chips than the rest of the table combined and already a master of the game and reading the other players…

    Bye bye, Yelp.
